Historical Fencing

Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) is an umbrella term for the study and practice of fighting in a style that predates contemporary Olympic sport fencing. We work from a variety of original sources from the 14th century onward, covering weapons ranging from one-handed swords and sabres to two-handed longswords, spears, and pole weapons. We then apply these techniques through exercises and sparring. If you are interested in research and translation of period texts or learning swordplay, join us.

Study Groups & Sparring Days

In addition to regular meetings, we also gather ad-hoc on occasion. If you can’t find a regular session that works for you, please contact us!
